What is SNMP
SNMP is a networking protocol used for the management and monitoring of network-connected devices in Internet Protocol networks.
How to use it in XEOX
To use SNMP on XEOX, you need to follow these steps:
- Go to Port-Based NAC -> Active Network Components -> select site -> click on the switch
- Locate the fields for SNMP Inventory and SNMP MAC and ensure they are filled out correctly.
- Ensure that the switch is reachable from the Radius server.
By using SNMP Inventory, you can retrieve the port information, serial number, and type of the switch. With SNMP Mac, you can determine which MAC addresses are connected to which ports. It's important to take the Inventory first, followed by SNMP Mac; otherwise, the information retrieved may not make sense.
Of course, SNMP and the community string must be enabled on the switch.
Regarding MAC addresses:
If the MAC address is already known and no VLAN has been assigned yet:
The VLAN configured on the switch is automatically created (if not available) and assigned to the network card.
