Agent Installation

How to Install the XEOX Agent

The Agent is the foundation of the surveillance system and must be installed on all computers and servers that you want to monitor. The Agent monitors the availability, performance, and state of the computer server at regular intervals. XEOX can send you notifications when a critical system or resource has failed, has deteriorated, or has reached a predefined threshold parameter.

The reporting intervals are based on an extensive big data analysis, which ensures optimal timing of the notification. The Agent has a very low cost, which means it can run conveniently on devices with minimal specification, and it updates automatically when a new version is released. There is no limit or cost to the number of agents that can be installed.

The Agent can be installed on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2022

Important: You don't need a .NET Framework for the agent

This article describes the how to install the agent. In case you need to install the agent on more than one device and don't want to do it manually, please read the following:

1. Download Agent

You can access the installation page, either by clicking the Install Agent button in the menu, or accessing the Getting Started page on the dashbord and then selecting Download Agent. There are four different ways to install the agent.

  • Download Connection File

The first step is downloading the agent. You can either use the Current Agent, which is a stable version or the Release Candidate.

In order to use the connection file, you have to download the connection file. After that, open the Agent Installation and you get a window, that asks you for either the connection file or the connection key. If you downloaded the file, please click select and choose the connection file.

Works similarly to the connection file, but here no additional downloads (aside from the agent itself) is not required. Instead of selecting a connection file, you can copy the connection key from the download page and enter it in the installation wizard.

Installing the agent via Windows Group Policy allows you to install everything unattended. You are not required to download the agent seperately.

Please refer to this article, for more information.

  • Install using CMD or PowerShell

You are not required to install the agent seperately here. Just copy either the cmd script or the powershell script, based on what you want to use and the agent will be installed.

2. Install on your Windows Machines

If you execute the Installer without any parameters, a wizard will guide you through the Installation. This is the recommended way for your first Agent installation.

Later you will probably install the Agent in unattended mode. This can be done with the /S parameter (Uppercase S for silent installation). With the /U parameter (Uppercase U for upgrade), the Installer will check if an Agent is already installed and install only in case of an older Agent or no Agent.

In bigger Environments, you probably prefer to roll out the Agent with a Group Policy.

3. Take a look at your hardware

The Agent is creating the hardware Object in the CMDB. A few minutes after installation you should see your hardware.

Read more about CMDB here.

A few minutes after a new installation the Agent is fetching Inventory and Windows Update statistics. This would be visualized in Devices.
